Celebrating Water Together!

WATERSHED (produced by Robert Redford) is a documentary that tells the story of the Colorado river which supports millions of people, the crisis it faces and the people who are giving it new hope. On the occasion of World Water Day, Fo Guang Shan Temple, Mississauga and Community Environment Alliance (through Greening Sacred Spaces) screened the film in both Mississauga and Markham to raise awareness about our precious resource.

The audience learned that the Colorado river no longer reaches its delta. They were encouraged to make a change in their own lives to conserve water.

This is the second consecutive year that the Fo Guang Shan Temple has hosted a water themed film screening aimed to inspire us to think about water in our lives and to understand water struggles around the world.

Over a period of two weeks starting from March 14 visitors and devotees were engaged in different water themed activities at the Temple.

They were asked to reflect on what water means to them, to consider the Hidden Water used to grow and produce common items through an interactive activity, and to participate in an online Water Wisdom Quiz that featured interesting water facts.

The commitment and enthusiasm of the Temple really shined through as they featured these activities in the entrance of the Temple. A water themed workshop was also organized for the local Scouts group in the Temple on March 29. In total, over 400 people were engaged in the different activities during the water celebrations at the Fo Guang Shan Temple, a contribution to a worldwide cause! This year the celebration expanded to include the Buddha’s Light Centre in Markham.
